Assignments for 431 in Fall 2026

Assignments for 431 include three projects, seven labs, eight minute papers, six check-ins and a late November quiz.

Our Syllabus provides additional information on all course assignments, as well as on how the course is graded.

Projects

The most important assignments this semester are the three projects.

• The Project A page provides instructions and materials related to Project A.

• The Project B page provides Project B instructions and materials.

• The Project C page provides Project C instructions and materials.

• Project deadlines are specified on the Course Calendar.

Labs

The Lab page links to instructions and materials for each of the seven lab assignments.

• Lab deadlines are specified on the Course Calendar.

Quiz

The Quiz page links to instructions and materials for the Quiz.

• There is one Quiz this term, which you will receive just before the Thanksgiving break. - This is an open-book, end-of-semester assessment of everything we’ll do between the start of the course and Class 24.
• Relevant dates for the Quiz are provided on the Course Calendar.

Check-Ins

Professor Love plans to set six “Check-Ins” these semester. These are brief opportunities for you to demonstrate your understanding and how well you’re keeping up with the course. Some might call them “mini-quizzes”.

• Each check-in is designed to take somewhere between 15 and 60 minutes of your time.
• Professor Love may require you to complete and submit work live in class, or he may simply announce the check-in in class, and provide instructions for submission on a short (48 hour) deadline.

The first check-in will take place during Class 2, as indicated on the Course Calendar. Details on the remaining check-ins will be provided as they appear during the semester, rather than in advance.

• Windows (ranges of dates when they might occur) for Check-ins 2-6 are provided on the Course Calendar.

Minute Papers

The Minute Paper page provides links to the eight Minute Paper assignments and related feedback documents from Professor Love.

• Minute papers focus on assessments of how the course is going, providing reminders of key issues, and gathering student views.
• Sometimes, minute papers also assess your understanding of something important.
• Minute Paper deadlines are specified on the Course Calendar.
